My theory is that it really isn't a good idea to suggest that Japan needs to submit to Imperial China. This joke didn't go over well there for some reason.

This is the kind of joke where you take a familiar phrase and
press it into service in a different context: the "han
unification" happened in 221BC: the conquest of Imperial
China.
