BREAKING_BADNESS

Vince Gilligan, the creator of "Breaking Bad"
(an acclaimed television series, which I have
of course not seen) in several different
places has commented on his main scheme for
the series:

He wanted the main character to start out
sympathetic, but get increasingly villainous
to the point where everyone would balk and
turn against him.

He expresses suprise on the point that
people never seem to turn against him.
They remain in sympathy with him through the
entire series.

He now suspects that he didn't need to work
that hard at the outset to make him
sympathetic: people respect competence, and
will identify with anyone who knows what
they're doing, no matter how evil.
