The sources of Chomsky-hatred
aren't terribly mysterious...

It often seems that it's all
about Israel: Israel's actions
can't be defended very easily,
so Israel's detractors have to
be attacked on other grounds.

   But actually there are
   many potential sources
   for the distress that
   Chomsky seems to provoke.

   Chomsky's general political approach
   is to highlight where the United
   States fails to live up to it's
   pretensions. So, he's constantly
   trying to tell people things they
   don't want to hear.

   This grates on anyone with any love
   of American triumphalism at all, and
   patriotism being what it is, that's a
   lot of people.



     And really, in the vast majority
     of cases, Chomsky seems to be
     right, but the handful of places
     where he *might* have erred are
     harped on endlessly by the people              CHOMSKY_DONT_ROCK

     These are places where he might
     have made a strained comparison;
     where he might have been slower
     to hear of something than should
     have been; where he might have
     even backed the wrong side in a
     dispute--
