CLOUDY

                                              January, 1996

Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics"
gets the McCluhan Hot and Cold distinction
backwards, which is kind of embarassing,
considering his title is a clear reference
to McCluhan's title.

     Also, his definition of
     Comics as "sequential
     art" is inadequate.
     Really, Comics should
     probably be defined as
     "narrative art". The ambiguity
                                      in the definiton
There's no need to then directly
     engage in intellectual mirrors the
     gyrations about why ambiguity in
     single panel comic what constitutes
     strips aren't part a narrative,
     of the art. a story.
