                                           February 15, 2007

In conversation with a friend in an
Indian restaurant in Manhatten, I INWOOD_ANGEL
started trying to explain what I saw
as the difference between the New
York and San Francisco arts scenes.

    In brief:

    New York has seriousness and
professionalism going for it, But then, who is more
but this always threatens to "serious" about what
corrupt with an inauthenticity they're doing?
    born of careerism and
commercialism. Someone who moves near the
                                               establishment power centers
San Francisco has more of a to make a grab at Success,
dedicated, individualist or someone determined to
quality to it, there's a live as they will, in
sense of freedom to do what obscurity if need be...
ever you want... but a sense
    of futility always threatens EAST_OF_THE_EAST
    to contaminate the effort:
    does anyone care? Is anyone
    paying attention?

                     And also, there are many
                     different New York's and
no doubt many different I know very little
New York art scenes... about what Wynton
                                                     Marsalis' life is
                         BIG_HERE like... and don't
                                                     really care.
