DECULTURE

                                                       January 19, 2010
  I stumbled across a new May 12, 2012
  exclamation the other day:
  "deculture!" From a post to
                                                       alt.gothic
It's used repeatedly in the "Macross Frontier"
sub-titles, from which I gather that it means
  something like "astonishing".

It could be that the idea has to do with
being confronted with something that's so SEX_CROSSED
shocking it knocks the culture out of you
  ("renders you speechless"?).

  Doing websearches, oddly enough, does
not quite settle the question of what it
  means... information is actually a
little sketchy on this one, and I have a
sneaking [1] suspicion that this might [1] Most of my suspicions are
be a fabricated meme-- it's entirely more like "shrieking suspicions"
possible the Macross combine thought it
would be a good idea to try to put over
over a new youth culture ejaculation [2]. [2] Oh, you know
                                               what I mean.
If so, it's somewhat remarkable that
they've had any success at all with
this... usually these kinds of maneuvers
just come off as obviously inauthentic,
and no one really buys in. [3] [3] There's an 80s teen drama
                                               called "Tough Turf" [4] that
In this case, the phrase I actually have some affection
"deculture" has some odd for, where a secondary
resonances within the Macross character goes around remarking
"saga", but primarily with the "Whoa! State of the art!".
  first series "Super
Dimensional Fortress Macross", [4] Among other virtues, it has

"without culture", and who go (His performance here may be
into shock when confronted lackluster, but handing him

It is somewhat amazing, by the way, that
American macross fans are so hostile to
"Macross 7"-- which has a male guitar
SEVEN_NOT_PLUS hero dodging around in a fighter craft
singing bad pop songs at invading psychic
vampires-- and yet they apparently really
like the original material in "Super
                                    Dimensional Fortress".... if one premise
doesn't make you cringe, why would the
                                    other bother you?

(Now, if you wanted to argue
that both of them are too dumb
to waste any time on... )

                                         But then, I digress.
