   There's a very unsexy quality
to much of the sexuality of
   the post-War II United States.

   Marilyn Monroe was said to
be a "symbol of sex", but
a symbol is not the thing That obviously, transparently
symbolized, and that map phoney breathy dumb blonde act...
had little to do with the
   territory.

   Playboy magazine was supposed to
have something to do with male And throughout all of this,
fantasies, but the thing about a continuing fascination with
the word fantasy is that it's an other cultures (where there's
antonym of reality... so much more going on than
                                                 *here*): Paris, the South
                                                 Seas, those "firey Latins"...

Thomas Disch got a short-story published in
Penthouse (as I remember it) that was a pretty
nice job at subversion: humanity subjugated by
aliens intent on forcing a warped, unnatural
sexuality on them, men and women raised
separately, with the boys trained in a jock
camraderie, doing rapid locker-room fucks of a
latex/plastic dummy to the cheers of the
gang... until breeding time when the male
viewpoint character is released to rape a
woman who has been bound-up in plastic so that
     she resembles the dolls...
