EDICT_ZERO

Weirdly enough, I just took another
quick look at the world of amateur (?)
audio drama in the Internet Archive, IS_OLD_AGAIN
and turned up another exception to my
initial impression that It's All Crap:

"Edict Zero" by "Slipgate Nine Entertainment"
is eminently listenable, with some definite
moments to it. It has some problems, but
arguably they're not terribly big problems.

What you get: a multiplicity of distinct
voices and audio textures, acting out a story
where we're shown a mysterious figure who
blows up some bad guys with a super-bomb of
mysterious character, and we then immediately
switch to a tale inter-departmental rivalry of
   government agents investigating the explosion.

   Problems:

The government agents scenario is such
an obvious "X-Files" rip off it isn't
funny-- and I've only seen a few
   episodes of that myself.

They could use a little more discipline
in the pacing. They're very proud of
their effects, and tend to let them run It's one of the things
just a little long. that was impressive about
                                                the first Star Wars: they
When the production engineer would work out an impressive
wants to pan crowd noises image and then just flash
from left to right to suggest it on the screen.
walking by the crowd, this is
both a (1) welcome sign of
attention to craft (2) a clue
      that someone else needs to
      intervene to restrain the engineer.
