  "Men of Tomorrow" (2004) by Gerard Jones.

  On p.38, there's an account of Jerry
  Siegel's father killed by a thief.  "He
  poked in, called Mitchell's name, and
  then saw the blood on the floor.  He
  followed it behind the counter, and
  there was Mitchell on the floor, already
  dead, with two bullet holes in him."

  But I've heard that this is wrong:
  actually he died later in the
  hospital because of complications
  resulting from this attack.

  If my version is correct, then Gerard
  Jones here has fallen for a smoothly        On the other hand: it could
  put together story, and missed out on       be that my version is totally
  a chance to dig out the truth.              wrong, and I've been conned by
                                              the plausible ring of a messy,
                                              dull account supplied by a
                                              debunker.

  So, what are his sources?

  "The date of Mitchell Sigel's death is disputed
  by various oral sources, and no documents have
  yet been found to settle the matter ..."  p. 344

  Is it really that hard to look up a death certificate?
