HANGOUT

There's a recurrent dream of
The Hangout-- "Pop's Soda Shop",
"Cheers", the Rebel Cafe...
   
The cafe as a social center, a "third     
place" where you can go to make            
contact with other like-minded folks.      

Hanging around in the places makes it
possible for you to make contact without
taking positive steps to initiate it--
you don't make a date, or call a meeting,
you just go there, and see who else is
around.

    An extremely similar dynamic exists
    concerning "social media" sites:
    nothing prevents you from sending
    email to anyone you know,
    but it turns out people like to
    have a way of offering to communicate
    without worrying that they might be
    forcing themselves on someone else.
                                    
    I'm just posting stuff here,         
    just skip it if you don't care,      
    I don't mean to bug anyone.          
                                         
       Another variant of the
       shy egotist syndrome...
