Handles, I've had a few,               And they may be too few
                                       to mention, but that's never
                                       stopped me before.

I was working a vein like:

  "Victor Von Doom"             GEODESIC_DOOM
  "doom"
  "The Voice of Doom"           THE_VOICE_OF_DOOM

But I can't say that I've ever
particularly *liked* these names.


   Naming yourself after
   a villain has it's            LIGHT_AND_DARKNESS        Plus: naming yourself
   problems.                                               after a marvel
                                                           comic book
   But making a self-conscious                             character is a
   attempt at being positive is                            great way to never
   not adviseable either --                                be taken seriously.
   do you want to be taken for
   a marketing droid?  Some kind                             And there was a
   of newage fool?                                           minor problem
                                                             with confusion
                                                             with the cracker
                                                             group "legion of
                                                             doom"...

                                                             And then, that
                                                             damn first-person
   In the late-90s I was                                     shooter game
   considering switching to                                  took the nerd
   a new handle, and the                                     world by storm.
   leading candidate was:

      Mister Inbetween

                          "You've got to accentuate the positive,
                           Eliminate the negative,
                           And don't mess with Mister Inbetween."



                                          I did a few radio shows
                                          called "Bright Gray,
                                          with Mister Inbetween".

                                          I was doing a lot of mixing
                                          multiple overlays of music to
                                          form a kind of sludgy drone,
                                          and I was envisioning using
                                          it to do seques, having each
                                          track emerge out of that
                                          "bright gray" swirl, and then
                                          fade back into it.

                                                           I kept having
                                                           trouble remembering
                                                           who I was supposed
                                                           to be.  "KZSU,
                                                           Stanford.  This
                                                           is the Voice of --
                                                           I mean, uh..."

Around the same time --
and completely disconnected from
that chain of thought, or at
least that's what I would've told
you -- I was getting interested
in angels and eagles:

They're symbols of two totally different logical
order: angels come out of our sacred literature,
and eagles are national totems without any
associated narrative, and yet both have enough
superficial similarities that it isn't hard to do
visual blends of the two of them.

                  Made-to-order for political
                  commentary about issues of
                  'church and state".


   One halloween, I was once again
   planning on making a pilgrimage
   to a goth nightclub, but rather than
   do one of my usual darkness/devil
   numbers, I was in a contrarian mood
   and thinking about dressing in gray.

   So I took a gray herringbone jacket,
   and cut out a black felt patch to sew
   on the back in the shape of an
   angel/eagle (a winged figure with
   both a halo and a hooked beak). I
   wore this with a gray fedora and a
   gray pair of tights.


       Dangerbaby started calling this
       my "Mister Inbetween" outfit...

       That wasn't *my* idea, but I could
       see how she got that idea...

       I would probably just go with it,
       (if I were going to go with it).
