One advantage of being a late-adopter is
that you don't get stuck with the orphans.

For example:

If I *knew* something about the field of PDAs
and smartphones, I'd no doubt be gnashing my
teeth constantly about how the market had
choosen to abandon superior technologies.

This way, if I ever do go that route, I won't
be nursing a collection of Newtons at home...


Or consider the case of betamax vs. VHS:
the most interesting thing about that
dispute is how much breath people have
been willing to expend on a really tiny
difference in technical capability.

        Betamax fans are out their
        waving the confederate flag     Though actually, I wonder if the
        come hell or high water--       people who keep citing the great
        or DVDs, which make the         Betamax-VHS war have ever
        difference in size and          actually used Betamax.
        quality of Beta vs. VHS
        look like a joke.                   Beta was okay,
                                            but nothing amazing.
