I knew of Creem magazine when I was
teenager, but paid little attention
to it

I thought the name was dumb, and I
wasn't reading much music journalism
in those days.

And because of all this, I
missed out on Lester Bangs 2004 (written for wikipeida):
back when he was at his peak.
                                          Bangs (along with underground comic
book artist Dori Seda) was the
                                          inspiration for the story Dori
Bangs, written by SF author Bruce
                                          Sterling in 1989. Sterling
                                          speculated on what Bangs' life
might have been like if he had
                                          lived longer.

   Bangs is an example of
   someone willing to really
let it rip-- to cut loose
   from contraints of taste
   and perhaps fact and
   rationality-- and to really
   *get somewhere* with it.

       He was punk before punk,
       (and gonzo concurrent with
       Hunter S himself).

       People like this arguably
       provide an unfortunate example.
       Music journalism might be POWER_OF_PUNK
better off with a little less
       "creativity" used as an excuse
       for egocentric, no-nothing CHALKBOARD_TRACES
       nonsense.
