The Woody Allen movie "Manhattan"
struck me very strangely when I
saw it as a young teenager.

I liked New York City, and I
liked Woody Allen movies, but
what I saw on the screen had
very little relation to the
Manhattan I was familiar with.

The Museum of Natural History
and Central Park were the only
geographic places that seemed
familiar.

Where were the subways?

Everyone kept taking
cabs all over the place.

   Later I had another obvious
   problem pointed out to me:
   where are the black people?

   A movie about "Manhattan"
without one single black "He romanticized
   person? the city --"

                                              Uh huh.

                                                            (Jan 10, 2014)
There are many I've always romanticized
different New Yorks. the city too, it's just
                                                 that my version was more
                                                 like "Desperately Seeking
                                                 Susan", or perhaps
                                                 "Downtown 81".

                                                      SEEKING
