MEDIA_FAST

  My first inclination is
  always to think about
  spreading the word.

  Be part of the volunteer
  promotional, publicity
arm of the next big thing.

  Talk up the good,
  talk down the bad.

A corollary of the thoughts above FAST_MEDIA
though is that maybe the word is
getting out too fast... Maybe you
need to close the door, pull down
the shades, hide out, let things
grow, let the situation gel,
before the floodlights zap all the
mold growing in the corners into
yesterday's dust.

   V. Vale talks about the idea
   of going on "media fasts"...
in that interview in "Comet" Essentially the
                                      "kill your television"
                                      concept.

      Mediafasting is pretty much
the way I live. Zero TV.
      Zero commerical radio.

      A lot of recorded music
      but very little on the
      big labels.

I do lots of net, and
lots of print though. (And some movies, videos.)

      You have to ask yourself
      what's the boundaries of this
      idea, what's "the media"?

      Do Vale's publications count?

      (Should you check the sales
      records first? Some RE/Search
has spread far and wide, some
      is quite obscure).

And if it's important to close
your eyes and ears to the info
           stream, is it also important
           to close your mouth?
