MITIGATE

                                             December 21, 2010

Many of the things we might
    do to combat global warming
    are worth doing anyway, for
    other reasons.

    If we quit burning
    coal in the US we
    could save thousands
    of lives of US citizens
    per year, at a minimum.
    (I've seen estimates that COAL_DEATHS
    go much higher.)

    If mitigating global
    warming is the only benefit
    you balance against costs,
    you're going to get the
    wrong answer.
                                       And the Nordhaus study
                                       apparently focused on
                                       things like carbon
                                       sequestration. If the
                                       only mitigation
                                       strategies you're
                                       considering are chimeras
                                       like that, no wonder the
                                       cost estimates look high.

                                           Myself I would suggest
                                           just phasing out coal in
                                           favor of nukes (and
                                           whatever else works)

                                           NUKE

And if you want to go after the
   pollution from vehicle emissions,
then one of the key things to do
is to go after the low-density
   zoning regulations that created the
   suburbs.

      Another change with
      multiple benefits...
