The sounds that come out of the
improv scene just aren't that
far beyond the reach of the
masses.

We're living in a time that's
post-Jimi Hendrix, post-Who,
post-Public Enemy...

Noise is all around us, and maybe
it's not so remarkable when one
person gets it. The weird thing
is that not everyone does....

                 From MIXING :

"... an appreciation of noise (as
opposed to music) is a ubiquitous part
                  of modern culture. We're quite
accustomed to listening to mixtures of
noise and music, for example in movie
                  sound tracks."

Eugene Chadbourne makes the point that
    "avant-garde classical music" is
actually part of mainstream culture, HATE_THE_MAN
    if you include horror movie
    soundtracks in your definition.

        In movie theaters,
        people regularly listen
        to atonal, arrhythmic
        symphonic music.

        The "unlistenable" becomes listenable
        given the right context.
