I always come back to breaking with the
left over the nuclear power issue:           NUKE

To me, this is the key
event that convinced me       TRIBAL
that tribalism doesn't
work:  there's no faction
you can join with a            Don't confuse social
monopoly on truth.             approval with truth,
                               or political correctness
                               with correct politics

When trying to make that
point, the temptation for me
is to begin with the nuclear      PROBLEMATIC_TALES
power example.

The trouble is, the "pro-nuke" position
remains so controversial, it's a
distraction from that wider point.


   Strategy: invite people to
   imagine their own break.

   Few people like to think of
   themselves as double-plus
   good duck speakers.

   Maybe everyone has a
   "nuclear power" issue of               The 70s-style
   some sort or another.                  puritanical           Or maybe not:
                                          feminists might
      Some area where                     be a good pick.       GEEKFEMINISM
      they refuse to
      be "politically
      correct".                    And how would I
                                   deal with the
                                   right-wing tribe?

                                      In practice, I just point
                                      out that the Bush regime is
                                      way too wreckless to count
                                      as truly conservative.

                                         And how about that
                                         deficit, huh?
