PULPY_DEATH

                                             November 7, 2007

      "Crooks chase man and girl who Know Too Much;
       lawman chases badman; over and over and over;
       why else do you suppose the pulps died?"

                -- Damon Knight, "In Search of Wonder"
                   (1956/1967), p. 253

            Wasn't it because everyone
            decided they liked the same
            stories better in new media?

            Radio, film, television...

            (Oh: and comic books?)

      I've seen this phenomena in other
      places -- someone wants to pin the
      decline of the word on their own END_OF_INTELLIGENT_WRITING
      pet peeves, even if that means
      ignoring what would seem obvious.
