SANKAKU

                                             April 08, 2012

The web site "The Sankaku
Complex" serves up news and Is that supposed to
(soft-core) imagery along the sound like "Standalone
general lines of what I call Complex"?
"otaku fodder", justifying it's
name ("sankaku"=="triangle" in
japanese) with a triangular
diagram: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/about/

o If you read much of the site,
/ \ though, you might feel that the
                 o---o triangle is more like:
           Multi- Mono-
           media media "exhibitionism-pedophilia-incest"

They assert that this "complex" is
tighter in Japan, justifying it's
treatment as a single entity:
They point out that successful
translations between media is SOUND_AGAINST_VISION
more common in Japan.

  They also claim that what
unifies them all is a visual That's probably true, except
style dervived from manga... I would guess it's not the
                                   only center of the triangle.
  Which raises the question
of why you would use a
  triangle with manga off to
  one side as the emblem.

A hierarchy with manga as parent And the term monomedia
would seem closer to the mark. doesn't actually describe
                                             manga: a mix of images
                                             and words.

                                                 And yes, in this
                                                 case they're
                                                 sequential images.
