     It often strikes me that the fans of
     stories are often really out of touch
     with what actually makes stories work.

     For example, a little kid enamored of
     super-hero power fantasies might think it
     would be really neat to have a hero that
     would be totally, completely, absolutely
     powerful: The amazing adventures of the
     omni-omni God-Man.

        But that sort of premise is
        actually a trap, and from such     (Or even worse, red
        things spring green kryptonite.    kryptonite or the
                                           "yellow-impurity" of
                                           the lantern).




                The Cervantes fan
                demands more pratfalls,
                little realizing how
                quickly that would get
                stale.
