THE_SOLDIERS_HAVE_COME

     In 2006 the group Hezbollah
     attacked a small group of
     Israeli soldiers, and then
     Israel went beserk bombing
     civilian territories in
     Lebanon.  Since then Israel
     has gotten hit in return,
     but the levels of civilian
     casualties are running at
     dozens of Israelies to
     hundreds of Lebanese...                 PROPORTIONS


        And everyone is talking about
        how Israel has a right to
        self-defense.

        The Senate was unanimous on
        this score.  Congress then             (Though not
        concurred --                           unanimously.)

        Hillary Clinton is emphatically
        in favor of letting Israel
        do what ever they feel like
        doing, asking her constituents
        to think how they would feel
        if the US were under attack            This seemed so warped
        from Canada or Mexico.                 I began wondering if
                                               I might have missed
             Canada better watch it's          something.  Perhaps
             step.  If some tourists           Lebannon did something
             get out of line, New York         I hadn't heard about?
             State might start bombing
             Toronto.                             This doesn't
                                                  seem to be
                                                  the case.

                                                    The connection between
                                                    Hezbollah and the
                                                    Lebanese citizens that
                                                    are being killed seems
                                                    quite weak...

                                                    Perhaps the idea is that
                                                    the Lebanese will blame
                                                    Hezbollah for the fact
                                                    that the Israelis are
                                                    slaughtering them?

                                                    As you might expect,
                                                    this isn't working.

                                                    One opinion poll shows
                                                    that Hezbollah's approval
                                                    ratings in Lebanon have
                                                    gone from 20% to 80%.


One of the events that "Democracy
Now" followed closely was an
Israeli attack on a UN base --

The base had made many
phone calls to the
Israeli side during the
attack, informing them
they were being shelled.

The attack continued for
hours, despite Israeli
assurances that they
would stop.

I saw a Mother Jones
article that appeared to
have bought the Israeli
line -- this was an
accidental attack,
provoked by Hezbollah
forces that were firing
from nearby.

Israel has lied about
this sort of thing many                THE_TRUE_FISK
times before... how can
it be that MoJo hasn't
caught on to this yet?

    Has the bias in favor
    of Israel been this        In a way, this
    bad all along?             is an even worse
                               problem than we
       SLOW_ARC                saw in the selling
                               of the Iraq invasion.

                               That period of madness was
                               at least relatively brief--
                               it might even have been a
                               genuine patriotic madness;
                               not all of it was
                               necessarily cynically
                               following orders to serve
                               only with the right spin.

                                  In the case of
                                  Israel, the
                                  "Pro-Israel
                                  Lobby" has
                                  been steering
                                  the US media
                                  for decades.
