   School is (often) boring
   because the students are dumb.

   They don't get why they're there,
   and have no idea how to get
   something out of the situation,
   and even in the rare case where
   you yourself are an exception
   then you've still got to deal
   with the others dragging the
   tone down.

   You can't convince kids that they
   want or need to know trigonometry in
   advance of actually teaching it to
   them... waiting until they realize
   they'd really like to know it isn't        (Not a good one at any rate...
   an option...                               you also then have to hold
                                              off on teaching them anything
   Rationally presuading them that            that depends on that
   they really should want to learn           knowledge of trig, and time
   trignometry isn't really an option:        is slipping by and their
   they're too dumb to reason with,           minds are getting rapidly
   they're just kids.                         less flexible all the while.)

       (Not that adults are
        often much better.)

   There are too many ready
   rationalizations, like "I'm
   never going to need to know           And it probably doesn't help
   this", or "I'm just not good          that the school system itself
   enough to do this, why bother?"       relies on crushing egos as a
                                         social control mechanism.
