UNDEAD

                                                          August 19, 2004

The Undead (1957) - Dir: Roger Corman
                                                              CORMAN
Time travel via hypnotic regression to past
incarnations: A prostitute is returned to the
life of a woman about to burned for witchcraft.

After interfering with the past, in concern about
the time travel paradox, they *send a second
person* down the same hypnotic regression link.
He steals the armor of a knight, which he wears
through the rest of the movie.

Morbid gravedigger ditties as comedic relief.

The devil, a guy with a black beard in a red suit
brandishes a pitchfork (albiet a very stylish one).

Beatnik babes in black do a dance of the dead in
    a satantic entertainment interlude.

The conundrum: die your fated death now for the
sake of your future lives or live as well as you
    can with what you've got.

One character trapped in the past, as punishment
    for his hubris.

So: this a pretty fucking strange melange of stuff.
I'm suprised that more people don't know about this movie.

                                         I gather the reincarnation
                                         business was intended as a
tie-in to one of the schlock
news items of the day about
                                         a spiritualist claiming
                                         evidence of reincarnation.

Such are the ways of inspiration
                                         in the land of Corman.
