    Electric powered vehicles produce more
pollution than gasoline powered ones, because
the majority of the electricity in the United
States is still generated by coal power,
    which kills thousands annually.

Of the major sources of energy currently in use,
nuclear power produces is one of the cleanest,
producing zero emission of green house gasses.
Coal has no "waste disposal problem", because
it just goes into the air.

If astrophysicist Thomas Gold is correct with his
"Deep Hot Biosphere" theory, what we call fossil
fuels are abiologic remnants of hydrocarbons of
cosmic origin, and the supply of them is much
larger than many suspect. (The potential sources
are deep throughout the earth's volume rather
    than just at the surface.)

Studies show that driving while speaking on a
cell phone is as dangerous as drunk
driving. This is a result of the mental
activity required: hands-free phones are not
    likely to fix the problem.

A recent study has shown that suburban living is
bad for you, taking years off of an average
person's life, evidently due to the lack of
exercise involved in a automobile based life
    style.

The number of lives lost annually to car accidents
in the United States is roughly ten times those
lost in the World Trade Center attack.

No Iraqi-Al Qaedi connection has been found,
and no evidence has been found of Iraqi
    "weapons of mass destruction": the
administration manipulated the nation into Al Qaedi began operations
war for unknown reasons of their own. in Iraq *after* the US
                                                     invasion.

The major news media, including nominally
liberal sources such as the New York Times,
ignored any indications of weaknesses in
    the rationale for the war.

In the 2004 presidential election exit poll data
showed discrepancies with the reported results
which was worse in areas where electronic voting
    was in use.

The forms of electronic voting in use in the United
States has been widely criticized by computer
voting experts since their inception, since they
    essentially are not auditable.

The president of Diebold -- one of the three major
companies that supply such equipment has made no
    secret of his Republican sympathies.

The major news media widely dismissed exit poll
data as unreliable -- except in the Ukraine, where
a similar discrepancy was regarded as obvious
    proof of a corrupt election.

Senator's Barbara Boxer and Hillary Clinton
introduced a bill called the "Count Every Vote
Act" which is among other things calls for a paper
trail in electronic elections. Senator Kerry has
come out in favor of this bill. It remains an
almost un-reported story (a google news search has
consistently listed less than 100 stories since it
was announced -- currently it shows 20 stories, vs
    over 800 for Michael Jackson.)

Dropped from the above list (now discredited):

Some scientific reports suggest that cell phone
radiation is potentially dangerous, e.g. one study
using mice reported that 2% of brain cells were
destroyed from comparitively short exposure to
    simulated cell phone radiation.
