UNIVERSAL_ART

                                    February 6, 2004

Suppose...
Imagine...

Everyone an artist.

   Everyone lives
   up to their
   full potential.

      All are good, and competent,
      if perhaps not great.

Would there then be any market
at all for art?

Why pay for another man's dreams
      when you have your own?

         When you're fully capable
         of realizing them?

Do we need to have "stars",
do we need to have "great artists"?

Someone we can worship
for being so much
deeper, so much more
skilled that we are?

Wouldn't it be better
if we were all just as An observation from my years of
deep, just as skilled? reading sf fanzine interviews:

                                   After a while,
                                   writers stop
                                   reading.

                                They say things like
                                "I don't have a lot
                                of time to read".

                                I suspect that they
                                just don't feel like
                                anyone else can tell them
                                anything anymore.
