WARHOL

                                             June 13, 2010

   Watching the "American Masters" documentary
on Warhol, it's difficult not to start
giggling at the insane, after-the-fact hero
worship from all of the pundits.

      I don't think it's enough to
      say "He was a *genius*!",
nor is it enough to say he
      was a superficial idiot. FACTORY_DAYS

      The actually interesting thing
      about someone like Warhol is
that he really doesn't seem all To borrow a phrase from
that bright, and yet he managed a pundit (Billy Name, I
to make things happen. think), he could throw
                                             lighting bolts... but he
                                             himself was untouched by
                                             the lightning.

      There's a common pattern
of making use of one's UNLIMITED
      limitations.

      Warhol was -- supposedly --
      shunned by the art world
      because he was a commerical
      artist; and because he was
      a bit too swishy, too
      obviously gay.

And so he made an art career
      revolving around the symbols
      and practices of the world
      of commerce...

And out of playing the king FACTORY_DAYS
      of the freaks and queers.
