WORKING_FIRE

                                             September 3, 2010

At a fourth of July gathering on a boat
  in San Francisco's marina, I overheard a
woman comment to her partner: "So, while
I was analyzing the appeal of fireworks,
  what were you thinking about?"

Analyzing the appeal of fireworks isn't something
that's ever occurred to me to do. Let's try:

      Night sky.

Archetype? But if they aren't "archetypes",
then what matters this to us?

Changes rare. We don't watch the skies.
      Historically, treated as
      signs and portents, etc.

      Fireworks are striking
      because they resemble
      cosmic phenomena.

Alt theory: fireworks are the weapons
of war, tamed. They have the cool,
edgy appeal of violence, without the Similarly, the
associated fear or guilt. blue angels.
