About an arc in From comments on
  Neil Gaiman's rec.arts.comics.misc
  "The Sandman"...

                  And, it's obvious that currently
Gaiman is telling a story about
stories... but what is it that SATIRE
Gaiman wants to say about them?

                  There's a framing sequence about
an inn called "The Worlds' End", POV
                  where everyone present tells
                  different stories, and they all
                  insist that they're merely
                  killing time.

It's clear they "protest too much",
                  but what more important function
                  might they be performing?

                      Defining the boundaries
                      of the world...

                          Or worlds.
