Allow me to write this down here:
World War I took place
from 1914 to 1918. FIRST_STAB
Do you think it's ridiculous I don't
have that memorized? So do I.
When I was in school, we were going into a post-60s
emphasis on Relevance, the kids were going to be
taught to *think* by engaging with the underlying
concepts, rather than just doing that boring old
memorization of facts and figures that was guaranteed
to turn kids off.
My deep understanding of the world back when I was
a teenager was perhaps not so deep, but at least I
had something going in that direction, unlike most
of my fellow Long Island teenagers, most of whom
were complete fools, and they managed to stay that
way after some game attempts at teaching them to
Think, Really Think.
But thanks to this bold new approach in
education, none of us got much solid
foundation in what I would think would
be some pretty obvious basics, like
dates of WWI and WWII.
