Not too bad a job this show, even if I couldn't get a hold of a
copy of Sun Ra's "Space is the Place" to finish up my "Music for
Libertarians" set.

--------

A breakdown of the reasoning behind the Music for Libertarians set:

Peter Gabriel D.I.Y. Peter Gabriel

"D.I.Y." means "Do it Yourself", as in "If you want to have some control/
you've got to keep it _small_/ D.I.Y. (Do It Yourself)"

Vapors Civic Hall Magnets

My favorite track by the folks who brought you "Turning
Japanese". A beautiful song about someone peddling jam on the
street by the civic hall being hassled by the police "And my home
made jam/And my trust in man/lies broken by the Civic
Hall/_Civic_ _Hall_..."

KMFDM Money Money/Bargeld (CD single)

An industrial track to keep my industrial fans happy, with the
inspiring chorus "one for the money/two for the show/it's three
to get ready/now _go_ kids GO!" (which unfortunately I'm sure
they intended sarcastically). The lines about people so sleazy
they'll do anything for money like dealing drugs worked fairly
well as a lead-in to:

Peter Tosh Legalize It Legalize It

Overplayed and a bit obvious, but it fits too well to skip it.
Reggae about legalizing marijuana.

Malcom X "by any means Wisdom of Malcom X
			   necessary"

The end of the famous speech about the importance of self-defense.

Movement Ex Freedom Got a 12" single
			   Shotgun

Hard hitting rap/hip-hop about the right to bear arms. You can't
be free without a shotgun.

Broken English Klik	Who's the Gangsta	Broken English Klik

Heavily political hip-hop, talking about the various kinds of
crap the police get away with, each example followed by the
refrain "So who's the gangsta?" Cops considered as just another
gang.

Nuclear Renaisance	One Down Day After

Begins with a reading of the first ammemdment, and the lyrics
"One down... what next? The whole bill of rights?". Competent
female vocal folk singing, but the backing music is such
over-produced schmalzy crap I couldn't bring myself to play the
entire song.

Yeastie Girlz FCC Yeastie Girlz 7"

Rap about the FCC's role as a censorship agency. "We wish the
FCC would go away!"

Bongwater Obscene & The Power of Pussy
			Pornographic Art

Sarcastic song about how hot and sexy all that "pornography" is
on display in every traditional art museum.

Beatles Tax Man Rock n' Roll Music

Another old and obvious pick, but how could I skip it? Name
another rock and roll song about the evils of high taxes...

Clock DVA Black Angel's Death	Breakdown 12" single
			Song

Vaugely incoherent old Velvet Underground song, with a constant
motif of "choice": "free to choose/choose to go..." Possibly
supposed to be about suicide, but in the context I'm placing it
here, you're supposed to be thinking about leaving an oppressive
situation, e.g. a location with high taxes... (Why a cover
rather than the original? Well I *really* like Clock DVA, and
this is a chance to slip in another "industrial" song to keep the
i-heads satisified.){

Frazier Chorus Anarchy in the U.K.	Twitch Volume 1

Very soft, mellow version of the old Sex Pistols song. If you
pay close attention, the lyrics are making more of a
chaos=anarchy connection, but the lines "...I thought it was the
U.K./Or just another country..." shows the right level of
contempt for nations and nationalism.

Killbilly Don't Tread on Me	7" single

Nice light weight rockabilly/country. "In the land of the brave
and the free/ Don't tread on me." Self-explanatory.

Young Disciples Freedom Road to Freedom

Slow, jazzy vocals all about the need for freedom.
