I have tried typing on a Zaurus keyboard for a few minutes, and I can
assure you it's not exactly Emacs-friendly. Here's a picture of the
layout:

Note the lack of Control, Escape, and Meta keys.

Apparently, there is a way to connect a proper keyboard:

I do have eemacs (Ersatz Emacs, a clone of microemacs) on psion 5mx,
and sometimes use it:
http://dbrechalov.narod.ru/library/Soft4Psion/english.htm

Its advantage is the familiar interface, but there is no elisp, so I
cannot install my usual environment which I enjoy on both Sparc and
w2k.

But the main problem is the screen limitation. Plain text files often
rely on 80 col width, and linewrap is ugly. To make all lines fit the
screen one has to set a small font, which is not good for the eyes.
That's one major situation where the rich text is preferable: in
psion's epocWord I can easily zoom/unzoom, and the text is reformatted
on the fly at no time at all.

Using emacs with the Zaurus keyboard is a nightmare: for the use
you have in mind, buy a small laptop. The Zaurus is great, but it
is not for typing long texts.

first, you can compile a emacs for the Zaurus and it will run.
But thats all of the good news.

If tried it with a NFS-Share to have more space. And it run, but the display
is to small, and the the keyboard isn't right for emacs.
On the hardware-keyboard you haven't a CTRL and no META Key. and the
screen-keyboard takes a lot of screen.

greetings Markus

PS sorry about my bad english
