Danny, if you seriously want to put an end to problems with installation
related issues and get on with learning something, you need to approach
this in a simple and straight-forward way. Thusfar you've given
incomplete
answers to queries about your system and little real information about
the
hardware involved - at least, not in a comprehensive way.

Would you please try doing the following:

1. From the command line execute the command "hwdiag" (in /etc/sbin, I
believe) and save the output - there's a screen for that purpose.

2. Execute the command "startx >& xerrors.log".

3. Post a brief description of how & what you installed from the cdrom
when you did your installation, along with the hwdiag output and the
contents of the xerror.log file.

Doing the above might just give one of us a chance to figure out what's
going on.
