I wish there was a similar key sequence in > Pine. [...] Don't know about Pine (that's Pico, isn't it? Yech... :-) ), but both vim and (X)Emacs can be convinced to use Shift+Movement to mark. For Emacs, the module "pc-select.el" does wonders in that direction - I think it even supports the old "Shift+Insert", "Ctrl+Insert", "Shift+Del" shortcuts. For vim it's a matter of a few key bindings. It's not perfect, but it goes a long way. ===
