You'll need KDE libraries installed. You can run any desktop you want. KDE
programs will run as long as the libraries are installed.

  but it's very limited in terms of server management options: I was
  not able to leave some messages on the server and trash the rest, so
  when I switch stations (work-home) I would pick the ones left from
  the other machine. I heard that mahogony mail does offer a lot of
  options but never tried it.
