Shared IRQs have always been bad juju, and to be avoided if possible.

Kernel version numbers don't necessarily signify, since Red Hat (like
distribution publishers generally) includes many patches and revised
drivers in its production kernels.  Regardless, I'd always be tempted to
disable funky "advanced" ATA modes in the BIOS prior to attempting a
Linux distribution.  (Again, if possible.)
