                 PostgreSQL, Inc. Releases Open Source
                 Replication & Database Conversion Tools

PostgreSQL, the world's most advanced Open Source Object-based Relational
Database Management System (ORBMS), now offers companies the security of a
Replication Server, providing data backup, disaster recovery, and business
continuity solutions previously limited to more costly commercial RDBMS
packages. Replication is an important requirement for commercial
applications, and an essential set of utilities for supporting the
expanding market of PostgreSQL servers worldwide.

MySQL(TM) is a leading GPL database application that has established
itself as a solid and commendable entry level solution in the market.
PostgreSQL offers transactions and other features along with improved
scalability for companies and individuals whose database needs grow beyond
current MySQL(TM) capabilities. Working closely with Tim Perdue and others
at VA Linux, PgSQL's Thomas Lockhart developed the mysql2pgsql utility in
support of the recent conversion of SourceForge(TM) to PostgreSQL.

As a gift of the holiday season to the entire PostgreSQL open source
community, PostgreSQL, Inc.(PgSQL) is pleased to announce the release of
RServ v0.1, the Open Source version of our eRServer utilities for
PostgreSQL v7.1 along with the first of our Conversion Utilities -
mysql2pgsql. Both of these utilities are published under the Berkeley BSD
Open Source license, in keeping with PgSQL's commitment to supporting,
promoting, and advancing PostgreSQL database applications.

Both utilities have now been added to the open source PostgreSQL CVS tree,
and may also be obtained directly by using the Download option on the
PgSQL Website at:
			http://www.pgsql.com/

With best wishes for happy holidays and a great 2001 from all of the
PgSQL team to everyone in the open source community!
