This probably doesn't work with 6.0 and their new authentication
methods. I've only tried it with 5.2.

Are you running RH6? I've tried this syntax and get the same
error.
Authentication Failed
Xinit:server error
_X11TransocketUNIXConnect: can't connect errno: 111
xinit: connection refused unable to connect to xserver

However, if I log in normally everything works fine.

Steve Borho's method works for me:

		xu:3:respawn:/bin/su --login username -c startx

		in /etc/inittab.

Thanks for the syntax that works.

The dns configuration file has changed its name,
and its syntax, because of the new version of the
named server.

The operative one is now /etc/named.conf.
DNS now ignores /etc/named.boot. Move your changes from
/etc/named.*rpmsave into /etc/named.conf using the
new syntax.

Red Hat released an updated set of kernels (2.2.5-22) for RH
6.0. Do those have the same problem as the stock RH 6.0
kernels?

Check the howto that comes with the 6.0 raid tools. You
have to build a new style raidtab file and then run
mkraid -o on it, but it can be done.

I would keep mission critical stuff on 5.2 for a while
longer unless you need something specific to 6.0. For just
a web server you probably don't need the performance tweaks
of the 2.2 kernel (unless it's going to use RAID or SMP).

I haven't heard about anything being broken in 6.0, but it's
also only 6 weeks old.

There is a new version of lilo in RH6. This is probably why you
needed to update the bootsect.lnx for NT.

Doesn't it work with or without the timeout and prompt?

`Subject: PageUP/Down key in nxterm on Redhat 6.0
From: citecdam <citecdam@citec.qld.gov.au>
Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 17:15:34 +1000 (EST)

To the list,

I use Redhat 5.2 at work and the PageUP and PageDown keys
work with nxterm to enable me to read pages of info if they
scroll off the window rather than using the scroll bar at
the side on the nxterm window.

However under RedHat 6.0 ( standard clean install at home )
this does not work.

I'm assuming that there is a config file of app-default file
that sets this up but I haven't been able to find it.

Why it was changed between 5.2 and 6.0 I would like to know.

Anyway could someone point me in the correct direction so
that I can change this under 6.0

You can still use dhcpcd. It's on the RH6 CD.

That's why the conventional systems administration wisdom is
to upgrade a non-production box first and test it, rather
than upgrading production boxes.

Whatever the case, the easy fix is to simply disable smrsh
in sendmail.mc, regenerate sendmail.cf, and restart
Sendmail.

The scripts are running 'pump', a program meant to
replace dhcpcd. It seems pump still has problems.
In some situations pump works, in others like yours, it
fails.

In the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory, edit
ifup and ifdown to start and stop dhcpcd instead of pump.
It's only a couple lines to change in each.

There's too many other libraries that need to be updated for
the 2.2 kernel to work cleanly on 5.1. I'd recommend at
least updating to 5.2 and then following Red Hat's
instructions on how to bring it up to 2.2. Even better
would be to bring it up to 6.0.
