Not broken, it's your filtering that's causing the problem.  If you
look at the commands in slocate.cron, you'll see that there's a "-e"
option with a list of directories that follows.  It hangs up in empty
directories; so they're excluded.  You can use the same syntax to
ensure that floppy drives and cdrom drives aren't scanned, also.
