There was a discussion only recently about this very point (wrt
how the fonts looked in netscape).

Try starting your X server with the -dpi parameter, eg:

	startx -- -bpp 32 -dpi 96 &

I wasn't aware of this until the discussion came up, and after trying
it, it has made a big difference here.
