Well, there are three DSL providers that are mentioned here every time the subject comes up: speakeasy, rawbandwidth, and sonic.net. I started to sign up with speakeasy recently, and I was somewhat suprised that they delayed mentioning a $199 equipment charge (for the "DSL modem" etc) until farily late in the process. Rawbandwidth throws in the equipment for free if you commit to them for a year. Notably speakeasy requires a year commitment as part of their regular deal. So I went with rawbandwidth, and I've certainly got no complaints about them thus far. === To: Joe Brenner <doom@kzsu.stanford.edu> Subject: Re: [svlug] Re: svlug Digest, Vol 269, Issue 50 Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2003 23:26:43 -0800 From: J C Lawrence <claw@kanga.nu> Joe Brenner <doom@kzsu.stanford.edu> wrote: > I started to sign up with speakeasy recently, and I was > somewhat suprised that they delayed mentioning a $199 > equipment charge (for the "DSL modem" etc) until farily > late in the process. DSL bridges are readily available from CraigsList and Ebay for ~$30. > So I went with rawbandwidth, and I've certainly got no > complaints about them thus far. Ditto. I'm thinking about upgrading my backhaul bandwidth to 384K.... === Date: Thu, 30 Jan 2003 23:37:21 -0800 From: Karen Shaeffer <shaeffer@neuralscape.com> To: svlug@lists.svlug.org Subject: Re: [svlug] Re: svlug Digest, Vol 269, Issue 50 J C Lawrence wrote: > Joe Brenner <doom@kzsu.stanford.edu> wrote: > > So I went with rawbandwidth, and I've certainly got no > > complaints about them thus far. > Ditto. I'm thinking about upgrading my backhaul bandwidth to 384K.... I've been with rawbandwidth for more than a year. Those folks have treated me very good. I highly recommend them to anyone who is in the process of acquiring DSL. === Date: Fri, 31 Jan 2003 08:28:03 -0800 (PST) From: John McDonnell <johnmc@johnmc.org> To: "Silicon Valley Linux Users' Group" <svlug@lists.svlug.org> Subject: [svlug] another satisfied Raw Bandwidth customer It would appear that on Thu, 30 Jan 2003, Karen Shaeffer did say: > I've been with rawbandwidth for more than a year. I agree. Fantastic service, never had an outage in over a year, and no slowdowns at all. ===
