I initially chose EDG (which is what is currently in use on Kanga.Nu),
but have more recently moved to CMFPotoAlbum under Zope for my next
round (not yet deployed). I like CMFPhtoAlbum quite a bit more.

Unfortunately my test installation is not on a routable box.

Zope is a content management system/application server based on a python
core atop an OO persistent database.

Not very, tho the learning curve can be steep if you head in certain
directions.

Not even slightly. You can use Apache in front of Zope, or you can run
Zope stand alone. In my case I no longer run Apache at all.

No.
