Before you do Ctrl-Alt-Backspace try Ctrl-Alt-Esc.  That
should give you a little skull figure for a cursor.  Move it
to a window of the program that is frozen and left click.
It should kill the program without your having to exit KDE.
That doesn't solve your Amaya problem but might save you
some aggravation.

CTRL-ALT-keypad+   (keypad- cycles the other direction).

It's a feature of XFree86 and is window manager independent.

Provided you opted for multiple resolutions when configuring X, it is
usually CTRL+ALT+[numeric+]

(a mistake I made .. its the plus on the numeric keypad, NOT the one on
the regular keyboard.)
