  The quest for perfect
  knowledge ran aground against                    (While reading Menand

  philosophical premises:

     the fact/value dichotomy

  When that happened, those
  premises were rejected.


  We must now accept the
  inevitability of imprefection.

  But that being so...

  Why reject those premises
  for being imperfect?
