AXIS_OF_COMPARISON

                                             September 22, 2013
                                             November 20, 2013

I sometimes start out with a few quotes from
different sources that I think are interesting
in comparison.

My first impulse is to just present
this bare pair of quotes, and let the This page was
reader look over the juxtaposition and originally like
just figure it out. this before I
                                                  decided to
That would seem to be simple enough, explain it:
but it's suprising how hard it is to read
such things-- even by me, who did the WHOLE_IN_ONE
pairing in the first place-- without some
verbal cues explaining what the author
is getting at, explaining why the pairing
is of interest:

Are they supposed to be saying the same thing?

Are they supposed to be opposed to each other?

What is the axis of comparison that's being suggested?

There may be another plausible one
than the one the author had in mind
                            in the first place.

   Another example of a thought
I have often, in different forms.

   Concerning writing: parsimony is
   at best a rule-of-thumb-- it's
suprising how difficult it can And that has appications
be to read something once the in other areas: anything
"useless" words have been removed. that exists may be serving
                                          some hidden function that
                                          you're unaware of.
