 Global Warming:

     We went from everyone jazzed up about it
          (post-"Inconvenient Truth")
     to only a third believing it's a problem
          (post-Republican blitz)

  Whether you buy anthropogenic global warming
  or not, this is horrible news for science in
  general, and horrible news for any hope of an
  intelligent public policy based on scientific
  knowledge.

  Even in the unlikely event that the republican
  media blitz brought us collectively closer to
  knowing the truth, it shouldn't take these kind
  of media maneuvers to get us there.

     Pace Lessig, you could call this
     a kind of "corruption", but that
     understates the problem... it
     doesn't matter if the Republican
     attack squad has been bribed, or
     if they're true believers.

        We're missing some critical mechanisms.
