Periodically I get seriously
depressed about the state of
the west, and it seems like
there's just no hope left for
it any more.

        I keep meaning to write
        something about this,
        but coincidentally I
        never get to it when         So for now, just
        I'm in that frame of         this brief sketch,
        mind.                        to be expanded

The way the general theme goes is that
Americans are desperate to hold onto
Greatness, but has lost touch with the
things that have made it great.

No sense of civic virtue.

No respect for intellectual
freedom.                               All too willing to buy
                                       into the idea that there's
No interest in thinking about          a tradeoff between security
anything: it's supposed to come        and freedom.
to you easily or not at all.

Aggressively, willfully ignorant:
unwilling to hear a discouraging
word about themselves.
