DREAM_RACE

  A dream from not too long ago:


   A group of people were hanging around my place.
   One of them picked up some papers I'd been looking at,
   and commented something like:

      "Will you look at this?  He's got the race results here,
      and he *knows* that he just bet, but he refuses to do that
      because he knows the effects that would have on the time
      stream.  So instead, he's figuring out what the effects
      *would* have been, if he had bet."

   Why this would be a useful thing to know was not
   explained, but the person commenting seemed very
   impressed with my approach.


        There's something here about indirect reasoning,
        excercising restraint, and yet working through
        the ramifications of it...
