"Henti Prince and the Stony Cat"

A bunch of all-too-common elements remixed
(but then, that's anime for you):

   Fantastic premise:    a stone cat idol that grants
                         wishes in a mischevious way.         This is Thorne
                                                              Smith without
   Even more fantastic:  multiple cute girls fall in love     the alcohol.
                         with the male main character,
                         and begin competing for him.


One of the women loses her ability
to express emotion, and seems much         I would guess that
like the Nagato character of Haruhi        There's A Name For This.
Suzimiya.

The male main character, despite being
a self-proclaimed perv (hentai) keeps
giving the women the just-friends line
(rather than, for example, the "menage
et trois"-line, which would seem to be
more in-character).

The quality of this show is very uneven,
but most episodes have a few little bits
in it that work pretty well, and-- if you
read between the lines a bit-- it's a bit
suprising how well they get the character
interactions to make sense.

An early plot line has our hentai hero lose
his "facade", i.e. his conversational
inhibitions: he becomes someone who walks
up to women and starts chatting with them
about their breasts... or gets on his hands
and knees and starts barking like a dog,
volunteering to be their pet.

You might figure that this would be
slightly off-putting to young women, but
he's so cheerfully upfront about his
obsessions-- not at all furtive about it
as the typical perv is likely to be-- it
isn't implausible that a display of
sexual confidence like this would get at
least some women interested in him.


In one episode, one of the girls is emotionally upset
and she's hiding out at home, staying locked in her
bedroom for days.  Our hero decided to kidnap her and
get her out of there to some place where he can talk
to her, and he evidently just uses the very direct
method of asking her mother for help.  There's a
really funny sight gag where he's walking out of the
house with the girl thrown over his shoulder while her
mother is standing there smiling and waving, seeing
them off in a taxi.  That's a joke, but it's a joke
that's funny because it makes sense: it's likely that
any mother would be worried about that reclusive
behavior, particularly a mother in Japan where the
"NEET" shut-in phenomena seems to be a big deal.          HIGASHI_NO_EDEN
