There's a slight of hand in the word
"objectification", it has two possible meanings:
being a "sex object" might just mean being the
object of someone's attentions, i.e. regarded as
attractive, but it can also mean being reduced to
the status of an "object", to something that is
no longer a human being.
Once you recognize there are two things going on in
the word, it's easy to see you might want to split
these two issues: There's a difference between being
an "object of desire" and "being a mere object".
Do we want to conceed that being attractive
is to be less than human?
